From parents and guardians:

• Name and email address (account registration)
• Billing and payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we do not store full card details)
• Mailing address (for state fund / ESA invoice purposes only)
• Referral codes used or generated

From students:

• First and last name
• Date of birth and age
• Grade level and timezone
• Class reservations, lesson completions, and feedback ratings

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our educational services. We do not collect unnecessary personal data from students.

Automatically collected:

• Usage data (pages visited, features used)
• Device and browser information
• IP address

2. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

BrightBe Learning serves children under the age of 13. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and its 2026 amendments. All accounts are created and managed by a parent or legal guardian — children cannot register independently.

By creating an account, the parent or guardian provides verifiable parental consent for their child to participate in BrightBe Learning services and for us to collect the minimum information necessary to provide those services.

We do not:

• Sell children's personal information to third parties
• Use children's data for advertising or marketing purposes
• Allow children to publicly share personal information
• Allow private one-to-one messaging between students

Parents may request to review, correct, or delete their child's personal information at any time by contacting us at hello@brightbelearning.com.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and improve our educational services
• Process payments and manage subscriptions
• Send class reminders, billing notices, and service updates
• Generate invoices and attendance records for state fund / ESA reimbursement
• Respond to your questions and support requests
• Send marketing and service updates to parents who have opted in
• Comply with legal obligations

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the following service providers as necessary to operate our platform:

• Stripe, Inc. — payment processing
• Supabase, Inc. — secure database hosting
• Resend, Inc. — transactional email delivery
• Mailchimp (Intuit Inc.) — marketing emails (waitlist and newsletter only, for parents who opt in)
• Zoom Video Communications, Inc. — live class sessions
• Vercel, Inc. — website hosting

Each of these providers is bound by their own privacy policies and data protection obligations. We may also share information when required by law or to protect our legal rights.

Data may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information as follows:

• Parent email address: Retained indefinitely for legal notices and, if opted in, service updates. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.
• Billing and payment records: Retained for up to 7 years for tax and accounting purposes, as required by law.
• Student personal data (name, date of birth, class records): Deleted within 90 days of account termination, unless the parent provides express consent for longer retention.

In compliance with Florida's Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA) and COPPA, we do not use student "covered information" for any purpose other than providing K-12 educational services.

6. Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure database access controls, and third-party services with strong security standards. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law, including Florida's Information Protection Act (FIPA).

7. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session and improve your experience. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not function properly.

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you or your child
• Request correction of inaccurate information
